2. Registration
A registration desk will be set up at the venue. Please register on the first day (6 October 2025) between 08:00 – 08:30 AM.
3. Flights (AfriGEO‑sponsored participants)
AfriGEO will cover one economy‑class return ticket from your country of origin to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), Diass, Senegal. The AfriGEO Secretariat will contact you to finalize booking details after you confirm participation.
4. Change of Reservation on the Ticket
After the flight is booked, no further changes (e.g. itinerary changes or missed‑flight rebooking) will be covered by AfriGEO; such costs are the participant’s responsibility.
5. Meals
Lunch and tea/coffee will be provided at the hotel on all Symposium days (6 – 9 October 2025) for every participant.
Special diets: Please inform us in advance of any dietary requirements.
6. Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA)
AfriGEO‑sponsored participants will receive a daily allowance (USD) for dinner and incidentals, payable at registration upon presentation of your incoming boarding pass. Rates follow AfriGEO policy.
7. Visas
A passport valid for at least six months is required. Some nationalities are exempt from visas for stays under 90 days; others must obtain a biometric visa (online pre‑registration and in‑person biometric capture). Check requirements well in advance.
8. Ground Transportation (AfriGEO‑sponsored participants)
A ground‑transport allowance covers transfers between the airport (≈ 69 km from the venue) and the Symposium hotel, as well as daily hotel‑venue shuttles.
9. Local Language
The official language is French. National languages such as Wolof are widely spoken.
10. Weather
October marks the end of the rainy season. Expect temperatures of 25 – 32 °C, lingering humidity, and occasional showers, especially early in the month. Plan accordingly.
11. Local Currency & Exchange Rate
The currency is the CFA franc (XOF). At commercial‑bank rates, 1 USD ≈ 600 XOF. Exchange services and ATMs are available at AIBD and in urban areas. Major credit cards are widely accepted.
12. Travel Insurance
Obtain travel insurance before departure. AfriGEO does not cover medical or emergency expenses.
13. Time Zone
Senegal uses UTC +00:00 year‑round (no daylight saving).
14. Other Costs
Personal expenses (extra meals, laundry, phone, alcohol, tips, etc.) are the participant’s responsibility and must be settled directly.
15. Internet
Complimentary Wi‑Fi is available at the King Fahd Palace Hotel. Access codes will be provided on‑site. AfriGEO will not reimburse personal data or voucher costs.
16. Electricity
Senegal operates on 220 V / 50 Hz. Plug types C, E and D are common. Bring an appropriate adapter if required.
17. Security
Dakar is generally calm, but basic precautions are advised: avoid displaying valuables, be cautious at night, and use official taxis or ride‑hailing apps.
